NAVY FEDERAL ONLINE ACCESS CONCEPT

eNet

Why it is a favorite

When I as tasked with the eNet project, Navy Federal’s 10-year-old,  11,000 page intranet, I was told by a VP to "go to war" on this project and fight those who had been in charge of it for the past 10 years.  However, after the first meeting with their team, I could immediately tell that this was not the right approach.  I learned very quickly how to work with the other diverse teams to build consensus on the new designs and tried to lead a collaborative design environment.  Though there were still inevitable conflicts and disagreements, everyone on the team understood that we were all working towards the same goals and, in the end, could all stand behind the new intranet.

I very much value the lessons on how to build consensus and how to organize a large-scale design project with a diverse team.  I learned a great deal from this project and am proud of the work we all accomplished as a team.

Social Currency

Why This is a Favorite

When I started at PSD, I was the 22nd employee.  One week after I started, the only project manager quit and I had to lead both the project, the UX, and the team.  Our task was to create: Social Currency, a Foursquare-based application focused on providing financial information and advice aimed to illuminate, entertain and help consumers. Though there were only four of us (a visual designer, two developers, and me as PM and UX), we all worked together very closely, collaborating and bouncing ideas off one another.  It was very much a trial by fire with aggressive deliverable deadlines , but we were able to quickly produce a concept and, soon after, application/website.

From this project, I learned the importance of establishing and maintaining a collaborative, open environment.  It was also the very first project that I lead from conception to deployment so will always be one of my favorites.
